Instruction Medium: Charcoal
Over the span of five weeks, you'll embark on a journey to master the art of portraying the human form on paper. Through our sessions, you'll acquire essential skills for accurately observing and depicting facial proportions and features. We'll explore the intricacies of light and shadow, discovering how charcoal can be wielded to imbue your portraits with depth and realism. Tailored for beginners, this class provides a nurturing space where you can refine your abilities and ignite your imaginative spark.
Supports and paper:
• Drawing board 18” x 24"
• Strathmore 500 series white charcoal paper 18” x 24"
• Rough Newsprint 18” x 24” (to pad your drawing paper)
• Strathmore 500 series Blue Grey or Smoke Grey charcoal drawing paper 18”x 24” or larger (1 or 2 sheets)
Drawing Materials:
• General’s Charcoal pencils (several HB’s & one 2B)
• General’s White charcoal pencil
• Kneaded eraser
• White eraser
• Blending Stumps (not the spiral wound ones)
• Small Snap knife from hardware store
• Sandpaper (120 or 150 grit)
• 2 bull dog clips
• Wooden skewer
• Tombow Zero Refillable Round Eraser
