Migration & US Border Issues

This class will familiarize students with concepts related to the movement of people across the world with emphasis on historical and contemporaneous issues affecting the U.S. immigration system and U.S. international borders. Students will become acquainted with a broad overview of areas including the legal framework for regulating immigration, responses to refugee crises, and case studies of specific events.
Michael Opferman
Michael Opferman (Opie) has spent his career in federal law enforcement. He focused on immigration, customs, criminal fraud, human smuggling and trafficking, among others. He is currently an adjunct professor for La Roche’s Criminal Justice Department. In his spare time, he teaches Olympic line fencing, chess, and defensive tactics. He is also an amateur photographer.
