Etymologies Everywhere

Lifelong Learning | Registration opens 1/8/2025 9:00 AM EST

Ever wonder…Of course you have! You’re “human.” (From the earth – “humus”)

Ever relied on Wikipedia…Of course you have! “Very quick.” (From Hawaiian – “Wiki”)

Ever utilized a USB for your technology…Of course you have! (“Universal Serial Bus” – Intel, 1996)

Ever fed your kids Zweiback…Of course you did! (“Baked twice”, which makes it nice and crunchy)

All of our half-million words in the English language “come from” somewhere or something. Each week, we’ll discuss the definitions, etymologies, and more interestingly, the side and back stories of 50-60 of them. If you’ve ever wondered, “Where did THAT come from?”, here’s your chance to find out. (This is the third of a series of Etymology classes. They are not sequential.)
