Memoir Writing

Lifelong Learning | Registration opens 1/8/2025 9:00 AM EST

All of us have our own interesting stories. In this participatory class, we want to hear them. The instructor will go over some of the basics of memoir writing. Then, participants will be encouraged to write and share their stories in a relaxed and positive classroom setting. The course also will explore how to preserve your stories in a keepsake for yourself and future generations.

This class is open to new and former participants. The class will run for 6 weeks and end on March 14. If a member has never taken this course before, they must attend the first week of the class to participate.

Steve Hecht

Steve Hecht worked on newspapers and magazines for 40 years as a writer, copy editor and graphic designer. He spent 30 of those years at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Hecht became interested in memoir writing in the early 1990s when he helped Holocaust survivor Ernie Light compile his memoirs, which were turned into a small book. Some of Hecht’s own memoir stories have appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul and Pittsburgh Quarterly Magazine.
