Examining cultures through film - How films inform us about cultural differences and expand our knowledge

Lifelong Learning | Registration opens 1/8/2025 9:00 AM EST

Film is often used as a tool for teaching about different cultures.

A good film can keep us engaged and entertained while enriching our understanding of the world, challenging us to understand how others think and live their lives. Asking ourselves; What new things did we learn? How are the characters alike and different from each other? Why did the characters do what they did? How did their actions affect others?

This class is comprised of two parts, watching films and then discussing themes, perspectives, and exploring cultural differences.  Friendly discussions are encouraged after examining a specific film that can provide a greater ease of conversation about sensitive issues. The discussions will focus on the culture, plots and film characters.  Rather than critiquing characters based on our personal beliefs, this class will analyze characters from their points of view. Come join us in fascinating conversations about cultural differences and our world.
