American Bureaucracy 2: First 90 Days

Building on the foundational principles of American Bureaucracy, this course offers an in-depth look at the first 90 days of a new presidential administration. Students will examine the critical early stages of governance, focusing on the formation and implementation of policy agendas, executive orders, and key bureaucratic appointments. The course will assess how the incoming president navigates the challenges of transitioning from candidate to chief executive, including managing confirmation hearings, establishing cabinet and agency priorities, and addressing campaign promises. Through case studies and current events analysis, students will explore how the initial actions of the president shape the trajectory of their administration and the broader political landscape. This course provides a detailed, real-time understanding of the complexities and dynamics of American bureaucracy during a president's early tenure.
Jamaal Craig
Jamaal Craig is an Associate Professor at the Community College of Allegheny County where he teaches courses in Ethnic and Diversity Studies and Political Science. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy, from New England College and a BA in Political Science from the University of Tennessee as well as an Associates in Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina. He has taught courses including Political Science 101, American Government, State and Local Government, and the U.S. Constitution. He is also the lead faculty of the Youth Civic Leadership Academy (YCLA) a program that partners with the City of Pittsburgh to help youth develop transferable skills, competencies, and experiential learning necessary to thrive as civic leaders, community stewards, and change makers.
In addition to his teaching experience Professor Craig has extensive experience working in government at the Federal, State, and Local levels.
