Introduction to Acrylic Painting is for those who would like to try the medium of acrylic painting. It is for the absolute beginner. There is no requirement for any background in drawing, though we will discuss how design, centering and perspective effects the painting. The focus of the five classes will be to introduce the student to color theory, supplies needed for acrylic painting, painting techniques and we will complete four or five small acrylic paintings.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course the student will:
1. Be able to identify the supplies needed to paint with acrylics.
2. Have a basic understanding of acrylic painting techniques and the different effects they produce.
3. Learn to mix paints by using a color wheel.
4. Enjoy the accomplishment of creating their own paintings.
Students will need to bring/purchase basic art tools - basic nylon brush set (packets usually have 3 to 5 nylon/synthetic brushes), 5 student grade acrylic paints ( colors -blue, red, yellow, black and white- can be in tubes or jar), 2 empty containers for holding water (one to mix colors, one for cleaning the brush), a roll of masking tape, one or two lead pencils, 5 or 6 small pre-prepped canvas boards, size 8x10. All of these items can be obtained from a Dollar Store, Dollar General, an art and craft supply store or big box store.
Due to the popularity as well as the small class size of our art classes, students will be chosen based on a lottery. If you would like to take this class, please register for the lottery. Participants for the class will be randomly selected from those who have registered for the lottery.
