Cybercrimes: Cases and Threats Overview

An examination of cybercrime and cyber law will be discussed using case studies.  The class will look at the investigative process as applied to cybercrime.  We will define and illustrate various types of cybercrime, telecommunications fraud,  Artificial Intelligence (AI) “Deepfakes,” and cyberterrorism. Cybercrime prevention strategies and techniques will be presented to include Identity Theft (ID) recovery steps and cybercrime reporting mechanisms.

 

Mike McKeown

Mike McKeown is a recently retired Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Supervisory Special Agent . He joined the FBI in 1997 and worked the majority of his career on cyber investigations for the FBI.  His cyber work for the FBI included working as a Cyber Assistant Legal Attache in Ukraine and at the European Union’s Europol Center in The Hague, Netherlands.  Following his retirement from the FBI, Mr. McKeown became an Assistant Professor at La Roche University.
