Poets and Storytellers of the Celtic Revival

In this course, we will explore the poets and storytellers who wrote during the Celtic Revival at the turn of the century, including W.B. Yeats, Douglas Hyde, Lady Gregory, Padraig Pearse, J.M. Synge, and George “AE” Russell. In addition, we will be discussing the different aspects and impacts of the Celtic Revival movement, both in Ireland and globally. By the end of the course, we will have become familiar with this exciting period of Irish history and the literature that defined it. Each class will involve reading a poem together, some contextual lecturing, and group discussion.
Theodore Lehre
Theodore Lehre is an English Ph.D. candidate at Boston College, with a specialization in (and great passion for!) Irish literature and gender/sexuality studies. Originally from California, they earned their Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from UC Berkeley, where they began their Irish literary journey, and their Associate of Arts from Santa Rosa Junior College.
