Mighty Fine Music
Lifelong Learning | Available (Membership Required)
Join radio host Mike Plaskett in person at La Roche University as he shares recorded music and musical research gleaned from over sixty years in record collecting and radio. Selections are fresh picked from Mike's new radio series, Mighty Fine Music. Each record wants to be heard in context, so we'll listen to the music, share their stories, occasionally look at old photos and occasionally consider the finer things in life. 9
Even if you are too young to remember this kind of music directly, the jazz, swing and popular music of the 1930s and 40s is still a source of melody and joy for anyone with ears to hear it. Plus, lots of that music was still being brilliantly played into the 1950s and 60s. We will give it a go. Now is a fine time to join Mike Plaskett for this new, informal series of songs, stories and recordings from those bygone days.
Mike can now be heard every week on station KCEA in San Francisco with his new show, Mighty Fine Music. You can hear it every Saturday in Pittsburgh (and nationwide) on the big band channel, Swing Street Radio. https://www.swingstreetradio.org/listen-live-and-requests/ Mike's Mighty Fine Music show airs online every Saturday at 2 PM Pittsburgh time. In addition to online Swing Street Radio, Mighty Fine Music is also carried on several other internet radio sources that relay the original.
