Lori’s sold-out workshops are a testament to her approachable, giving nature, energetic demonstrations, and hands-on teaching style. Her paintings are a personal and genuine response to her subject, and she encourages and teaches her students how to do the same. She believes that each artist sees differently and finds his or her own, distinctive mark. Yet letting go of formulas and finding the confidence to express ourselves honestly seems difficult, sometimes even fearful. Students will leave this workshop excited; ready to experiment more on their own; and, above all, pointed toward meaningful, personal, artistic growth.
Students will receive a free copy of Putnam's booklet "Plein Air, Right from the Start." The workshop will include lectures and demonstrations, individual painting time, personalized instruction and group discussions aimed to promote your progress. While demonstrations and advice on technique will be geared toward oil painters, artists who are more comfortable working in other mediums are welcome. Plein air experience strongly recommended

Portable easel and transportation required.

Putnam, Lori

ARTIST’S STATEMENT “As a Contemporary American Impressionist, I capture the character of a person, the difference of a place, and the quality of light. Rather than merely copying my subject, I use paint to respond to it. What interests me is rarely any specific thing unto itself. Color harmonies, rhythms, patterns, and abstract shapes excite me. Seeing the world this way affords me the freedom to explore all subjects. Hopefully, the end result engages viewers and invites them to find their own personal connection to the art.” —Lori Putnam ABBREVIATED BIOGRAPHY Recognized for her expressive brushwork, intelligent composition, and superb use of color, Tennessee native, Lori Putnam paints small to medium-sized works in plein air and creates large paintings in her studio. She travels extensively to paint, teach, and share her work around the world. In addition to landscapes, Lori also paints still life and figurative works. Prior to becoming a full-time, fine artist in 2005, Putnam owned and managed a graphic design agency for 13 years. In 2008 and 2009, she and her husband sold all of their belongings and traveled to the Italian countryside to live for more than seven months with the sole purpose of the painter’s self-study and artistic growth. A catalyst for Putnam’s artistic career, the concentrated work accomplished during that period culminated in an impressive breakthrough. Advice from artist friends Scott Christensen, Quang Ho, and Dawn Whitelaw, has further impacted the artist’s development and success. Featured in numerous issues of American Art Collector Magazine, Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art, Fine Art Connoisseur, and Art of the West, Putnam is recognized as one of the finest American Impressionists of our time. As an Artist Faculty Demonstrator for the Annual Plein Air Convention, she shares her philosophy and painting methods with its 750 attendees annually. Lori is a member of, and has exhibited with many respected organizations including the
