During this workshop, students will be under the instruction of Robert Moore for a week of on location painting. The variety of ‘plein air’ painting locations around Declo, Idaho is virtually unlimited. The quaint and very paintable town of Albion and the alpine environment of the 9,265’ Mount Harrison sit just to the south while the Snake River and southern Idaho farmland border us on the north. Students will enjoy a great time of growth and fellowship as they study the landscape with design principles in mind and with the parameters of ordered color palettes. Students will be encouraged to identify and simplify the masses while focusing upon dynamic shapes and what makes up a good shape. They will have access to Robert’s 10,000 square foot studio and gallery for critiques, after hours painting, and in the event of inclement weather. The Studio has ample floor space, good ventilation, excellent heating and cooling, and natural north light. Instruction will include the in depth application of Robert's "Ten Suggestions" of self-critique. This will include value control, color, composition, shape hunting, and transposing the landscape into clearly communicated information. Be prepared for an intense and memorable destination workshop experience.
Portable equipment and transportation required. Students will receive lodging recommendations upon registration.

Moore, Robert

Robert Moore continues to cultivate his giftings, style, and work ethic as an eminent impressionistic oil painter. Tall and soft-spoken, Robert possesses sincerity and courtesy that reflect his Idaho farm upbringing. Robert Moore was born in Burley, Idaho in 1957 and raised near the Snake River. There, amidst the wide open plains bounded by rugged mountains, his appreciation for nature was sparked. A contemplative, quiet individual, Robert discovered art as a way to freely express his feelings. His practical background and belief in discipline led him to first earn a Bachelor of Science degree with teaching credentials in Art from Eastern Oregon State College and then a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Center School of Design in California. At Art Center, Robert received a full scholarship and majored in Illustration. He graduated with honors. Robert prefers painting ‘en plein aire’ to best express his immediate impression of each subject. Plein aire painting allows him to capture the light and color effects of creation’s order. He frequently uses vivid colors and high-keyed values that reveal a spiritually inspired joy. Robert’s paintings have a characteristic mood and energy about them that invite the viewer to experience the beauty he sees in nature. Several Trips abroad, including China, Canada, and the Tuscan countryside, have also inspired many canvases. In recent years, Robert has become a highly sought-after instructor and he teaches multiple workshops a year. He has been profiled in numerous magazine articles including Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Wildlife Art, Big Sky Journal and Art of the West. Robert was also selected in 2012 to receive the Governor's Award for the state of Idaho for Excellence in the Arts. Robert Moore makes his home on a farm in the heart of the Snake River Basin in Southern Idaho with his wife, Rebecca, and their six children.
