Learn how to paint the human figure starting with drawing and then progressing to painting from the life model. Students will learn a systematic technique by painting models holding short and long poses. The great paintings throughout history always have a beautiful balance of proportion, value, color and edge. These aspects are what give power and presence to your work. Figure painting is deeply rewarding, engaging and bound to take your appreciation and skill to the next level.
Aristides provides frequent demos, breaking down the process of painting into clear and consecutive steps, as well as critique and instruction each session. Students will focus on how to start a drawing and develop Proportion, Value, Color, and Edge-work, which will help them to accurately capture a likeness within a limited time frame. Aristides, Juliette

Juliette Aristides is a Seattle-based painter who seeks to understand and convey the human spirit through art. Actively dedicated to rebuilding a traditional arts education in the United States, Aristides founded the first Atelier in the NW the Aristides Atelier at the Gage Academy of Fine Art in Seattle, WA in 2000. The co-founder of the DaVinci Initiative promoting skill based art instruction to public school teachers. She teaches workshops both nationally and internationally. Author of The Classical Drawing Atelier, The Classical Painting Atelier, Lessons in Classical Drawing, and Lessons in Classical Painting with Watson-Guptill, NY. Aristides exhibits in numerous one person and group shows nationally and her work has been featured in Gulf Connoisseur Magazine, Artists and Illustrators UK, Artist’s Magazine, American Arts Quarterly, Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector and American Artist. Aristides has a Solo museum exhibition Observations 2013 in Reading, PA.
