Composite drawings are investigative tools meant to convey information about a suspect’s face. However, it is important not to overlook the technical aspects of good draftsmanship. Effective art technique and style both enhance the ability to capture a likeness, and increase the potential for recognition and identification in these drawings. As such, this workshop will address three critical aspects of the composite drawing process: drawing, interviewing, and application within a law enforcement context. The workshop content comprises a range of drawing-intensive exercises that reinforce traditional drawing fundamentals such as facial proportion, value and shading. Additionally, practical exercises will explore distinctions of gender, ancestral heritage and expression. Photographic reference material will be utilized in class and instruction will be supplemented through a demonstration with a live model. Additionally, digital imaging techniques for enhancing composite drawings will be introduced through in-class demonstrations only.
While this workshop is intended for practitioners seeking to enhance their knowledge of forensic art techniques, artists of all disciplines may benefit from the workshop content.
Class will be held daily from 8:30am-4:30pm and complete at 2pm on Friday.
