Head and Shoulders: a Portrait Class
Class | This program is completed
This class will begin with instruction on the proportions of the head from basic line to more advanced anatomical study. From there, we will focus on developing a likeness from the model by learning to interpret what we see; simplifying the features and focusing on basic shapes and forms as described by masses of color, plus light and shadow. Set up to finish. Demonstrations and individual attention will be emphasized. www.donnacolleran.com
Donna Colleran
Donna is an award-winning artist currently living in Scottsdale Arizona. She has been passionately creating art for as long as she can remember. A professional artist for over 34 years, her career began as an illustrator. She has held positions as Graphic Designer, Art Director and Publication Designer in the Washington D.C. area, all of which led to the ultimate goal of working for herself as a freelance illustrator doing what she loved most, drawing and creating artwork for leading Advertising Agencies, National Publications and Associations. Donna sustained a successful 12 year span drawing and air brushing figurative illustrations with regular commissions by such notables as the Washington Post, Washington Journalism Review, Regardies, Bell Atlantic, Washingtonian Magazine and the National Department of Education.
The birth of two children by 1990 and a move to Atlanta, Georgia, gave way to a new opportunity to take her passion for painting the human form to a new level. She transitioned into a career as a portrait painter in pastel and oil through studies offered by Portrait Society of Atlanta. She traveled to study at the Art Students League of New York and continued to study and practice through workshops and classes. Some teachers Donna feels indebted to are Michael Shane Neal, Nelson Shanks, Everett Kinstler, Marc Chatov, Nancy Honea, Jim Schell and William Schneider.
