This dynamic and stimulating three-session class will explore a range of subjects: landscape ( earth ), clouds/sky ( air ), sunrise/sunset ( fire ), and seascape ( water ). Each of these scenes will present unique challenges to be solved with watercolor. Our paintings will be guided by the essential principles of watercolor painting, including understanding values and mastering techniques such as painting hard and soft edges, wet into wet painting, and using brushwork for maximum impact. We’ll develop practical skills such as mixing vibrant, warm, cool colors and subtle, neutral tones from a limited palette. Mike’s distinctive style, characterized by his vibrant impressionist brushwork and unique way of capturing light, will inspire and guide us throughout the course.
