Milly Guthrie
Milly Guthrie (b. 1977) is a representational oil painter who lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born and raised in Perú. She has loved art since her early years and growing up she was always drawing. She became a graphic designer and moved to the US in 1997. She is an entrepreneur and owns a garment decorating business in partnership with her husband.
Milly began learning to oil paint through workshops at the Scottsdale Artist School where she took her first 2 workshops with Robert Liberace in 2019 and 2020. She was so inspired after that, in 2021 she decided to become a professional fine artist. After that Milly actively sought out mentorship through workshops at Scottsdale Artist School under renowned painters representing diverse schools of thought. She learns by visiting museums, studying paintings from the old masters like Adolph Bouguereu, John Singer Sargent, Rembrandt and others as well as contemporary living masters. She practices the discipline of direct observation from painting from life and enjoys painting the landscape in plein air to sharpen her skills.
All this together is shaping her to create her own personal style and approach.
Currently her passion is to study the human figure and capture the human essence.
“My passion and vision is to capture the light and the story in everything around me to be able to create beauty with my brushes that will last a lifetime.”
