Be expressive, impressionistic and bold with soft pastel painting. The subject matter will range from tasty pastry and luscious produce to western rustic settings. Students will find it's easy to loosen up their style by creating a range of effects– Drag a pastel on its side, depositing a delicate veil– or press harder to leave a thick, creamy glaze. Applying small, direct dots of pastels can suggest texture and movement. Students will expand their connection with color by experimenting with new combinations of vibrant pigments. Each week, the class will start with a printed reference of crumbly pastries, juicy produce, or rustic structures found in sunny deserts. This is a ‘how to” technique class. All levels. Printed references furnished. Students will work at their own pace. Expect weekly demonstrations and friendly class participation. www.lizkenyon.com
