Still Life Composition Intensive: Painting from Life & Imagination
Workshop | Available
During this comprehensive still life workshop, David will teach his powerful approach to composition, both from life and from imagination, as well as his painting techniques with brush and knife. Students will acquire rational strategies for building their still life setups with a strong sense of focus: the key to beautiful composition. Students will practice the duality of observation and invention in service of a successful painting. At mid-week, David will teach painting from imagination (starting with pure abstraction) –a skill that will push the limits of everyone’s creativity and will make participants more versatile and intentional representational painters. Demonstrations will provide valuable insight. Student work time is prioritized so that they can receive frequent individual guidance from David. www.davidcheifetz.com

David is an internationally acclaimed and collected artist. A former architect, David began learning to paint in 2007 at the classical Schuler School of Fine Art and in 2009 made the transition to full time art. David and his family live in Olympia, Washington.
"Reflecting the language of dreams, these dark, hyperrealistic tableaux suggest bizarre and intriguing narratives. Cheifetz paints alla prima, an oil painting technique in which wet paint is applied to previous layers of wet paint. He works without detailed underpainting or studies, creating atmosphere through prominent, expressive brushstrokes and strong chiaroscuro."
