With excitement we welcome Illinois painter, Clayton J. Beck III, for this painting workshop. Clayton calls himself a “Realist Impressionist” as a way of identifying the subjects and style of painting that interest him. His aim is to show the story behind what often appears to be an ordinary scene. Clayton will help students find spontaneity, excitement and a greater comfort level while painting. Students will find answers to questions like: What do I choose? How do I start a painting? When should I stop? Should I take photos? Students will learn about harmony in composition, the colors of light, Alla Prima lay-it-and-leave-it brushwork, and the beauty of restraint. The techniques of John Singer Sargent, Antonio Mancini and Richard Schmid will be explored. This class is suitable for the confident beginner through advanced painter. Bring an open attitude, be ready to try new things and come to enjoy being with kindred spirits. https://www.instagram.com/clayton.j.beck/

Beck, III, Clayton J.
Clayton J. Beck, III

Clayton J. Beck III studied at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts with Richard Schmid after graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. His subject matter is as diverse as figurative nudes, still-life, landscapes and portraits. Clayton is a recipient of the Award of Excellence from the Municipal Art League in Chicago and has won awards from the Midwest Pastel Society, the Palette and Chisel, and the Pastel Society of America. “My love for painting has always been enhanced by my love to teach. Any artist who thinks they understand painting should try teaching. They will soon realize how little they know. I have always felt that I have a responsibility to teach because I have been given a generous gift from my teachers and it should be passed on to the next generation of painters who share this love of art.”
