Fundamentals of Landscape Painting

Class | Available

Beginners and experienced painters will have fun and learn a lot in this ‘Fundamentals of Landscape Painting’ workshop.

It’s all about seeing like a painter, through direct observation we see shapes, colors and texture. In this workshop we learn to recognize these observations (actually see what we are looking at) then we can pant these forms in a more accurate way, taking your work to the next level. We will focus on drawing, mixing accurate colors and values to make a successful work… Be ready to work and learn and have fun doing it!

Paul will demonstrate his techniques for impressionistic landscape painting. There will be plenty of one-on-one instructions as well.

Everybody will create paintings from photographs, so if you have some good photos bring them, otherwise photos will be supplied. Come join us for a fun, creative class, and a real learning experience.

A supply list will be provided.

I believe my love of art started with my grandmother who in the '50s and '60s was an oil painter in Pasadena, Ca. Like most of us I started drawing and painting when I was a young child. Most of us stop when we are 10 years or so, I never stopped which eventually led to a carrier in illustration. In the 1980s 2 lucky things happened, #1) I wandered into Trailside Gallery in Scottsdale and the work I saw there changed my life. I fell in love with oil paint, since then I have been painting primarily landscapes as well as the occasional still life and some portrait work. #2) I was very lucky to have found The Scottsdale Artist School where I was able to study under many truly great artists such as Robert Lemler, Matt Smith, Peggy Kroll Roberts, Len Chmiel, Ray Roberts, Laura Robb, Keven MacPherson and many others. In the last decade I have been teaching landscape painting which I love almost as much as painting.
