Sculpting the Truth

Workshop | Available

During this workshop, students will go beyond the obvious and uncover the essence of the human form. Students will learn how to look, see, and understand the human form in a new way, which will help them improve their sculptures. Kogan will teach students how forms are organized in space and how they relate to one another, which will allow students to find hidden balance that makes a beautiful sculpture. This search for movement, balance, and conflict among the forms is what brings honesty, truth, and soul to a work of art. Kogan’s dynamic teaching style and passion for art makes this workshop an inspiring, invigorating experience. www.simonkogan.com

Kogan, Simon
Simon Kogan

Simon V. Kogan is an internationally renowned and influential artist and teacher. Born and trained in Russia, Simon comes from the rare breed of renaissance masters where the artist develops and produces everything himself -- from planning, designing, making the paint to decorate the walls, and sculpture to adorn it from inside out.

A once-in-a-generation artist across multiple mediums, Simon is known for his complex yet paleolithic representation of the human soul and spirit - a vague yet powerful view of our collective and individual pneuma. Simon's depth of talent and skill offers a unique capacity to create intricate, tempestuous, and haunting depictions of humankind, be it through bronze, clay, paint, glass, ink, or wood.

After emigrating to the United States in 1991, Simon has created inspired works that acknowledge the history, beauty, and pain of those who have sacrificed in the cause of freedom and justice. His love of art and its creation extends to life-long teaching and mentoring students around the world. In 2022, Simon was recognized by the Washington State legislature for his contributions in enriching the community and elevating the human experience.

Simon's oeuvre of work includes everything from monuments, frescoes, jewelry, and portraits to sculpture and paintings that adorn public parks and plazas as well as private homes and businesses. His works are collected by individuals and museums around the world.
