Painting the Posthumous Portrait - Bringing the Past to Life

local workshop | Available

Painting the portrait of someone who is not still with us is a challenge that faces many portrait painters. There's usually no single optimal, usable photo and no direct opportunity for the artist to personally meet the subject. In addition to finding good source materials it's important to incorporate the character of the subject if it's possible. Finding the right reference materials and pairing it with new life or photo references are the keys to a vibrant, believable painting. Working in oil, Linda will guide you through the steps to creating a portrait that goes far beyond a painted photograph. She will help with design and composition as well as all the usual mechanics of paint color and application. Students are encouraged to bring reference photos of loved ones or use ones that will be provided.  www.lindatraceybrandon.com
