IS THERE A PROOF FOR GOD’S EXISTENCE?
Brian Martine
10:30 – 11:30 am Wednesdays, January 8 through March 5
Western philosophy—particularly since the early Middle Ages— is full of attempts to prove the existence of God. In this sense, the answer to the question is, “yes.” Though such attempts have sometimes been dismissed as presumptuous or fools’ errands (or both), many philosophers have formulated arguments purporting to prove God’s existence. But do these arguments work? Since the question is worth asking, this course explores the three primary arguments for the existence of God: the cosmological, the teleological, and the ontological, and assesses their strengths and weaknesses.
