Often missing from the Civil Rights pantheon because of his homosexuality, Bayard Rustin worked alongside the luminaries of the Movement, organizing the 1963 March on Washington. He spent later years as an activist for LGBTQ rights.
Joyce White teaches literature at Georgia Southern University where she specializes in Africana studies. She is interim director of GSU’s Gullah Geechee Center. She earned her PhD from Clark Atlanta University.
