His book (with co-author Barbara Hines) Savannah: A History of Her People Since 1733 is a classic of popular history and a wonderful resource for both natives and newcomers. Each class meeting highlights one chapter of Russell’s work, and the course takes in the book in its entirety. Free-form discussion is guided by Roger Smith and enhanced by anecdotes and images.
