Although It was born of poverty and sorrow, the Blues—that uniquely American musical form—nevertheless became the most comforting and witty genre of them all. How did this happen, and how did the Blues survive to be the robust and relevant musical tradition that it is today? This fascinating course blends historical lectures with musical selections, both familiar and unknown, to yield the story of the Blues.
