GREEK MYTHOLOGY: AN INTRODUCTION
Hugh Parker | 3:00 – 4:00 pm | Wednesdays | September 24 through November 19
Although 3,000 years have passed since the Greeks developed their elaborate mythology, an assumption of familiarity persists. But to remedy shaky recollections, this introduction to Greek mythology shores up the foundation. Gods such as Zeus, Aphrodite, Apollo, and Athena; and heroes and events like Heracles, Perseus, and the Trojan War populate this exciting series. Time permitting, the ancient Greeks’ influence on Western culture, particularly art, figure into the curriculum.
A companion course in the Greeks and their foundations is taught by Richard Braithwaite.
Hugh Parker received a PhD in classical studies from the University of Minnesota and spent his career at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro teaching Greek and Latin, along with Greek mythology. He has taught frequently in UNC’s lifelong learning program.
