Magazine editor and literary critic, accomplished poet and short story writer, trailblazer in science fiction and inventor of detective fiction—Poe, despite his short life, casts a long shadow in American literature. Five guided reading sessions breathe new life into Poe’s prose and poetry, giving participants fresh
understandings of the genius at work.
Laura Davenport is a published poet who has taught literature, poetry, and creative writing at Virginia Commonwealth and Savannah State Universities. She is senior director of library services at SCAD.
Roger Smith is the founding director of The Learning Center. In earlier years, he taught American literature at the high school level and served as director of education at the Georgia Historical Society.
