Champagne and Chocolate
European Artisanal Masterpieces
Rebecca Rolfes and Susan Terrio
3:00 – 5:00 pm Thursday, November 13
Europeans have always striven for perfection in luxury goods. Nowhere is that superiority better known than in Champagne and chocolate. This was not always the case, as this investigation into centuries of wine and chocolate history reveals. And there will be samples!
Rebecca Rolfes spent her career as an investigative journalist specializing in industry. She co-founded Imagination Publishing in Chicago. Her lecture on the Widow Clicquot and her champagne is legendary and it is reprised in this program.
Susan Terrio is professor emeritus at Georgetown University where she taught anthropology and French. Her book, Crafting the Culture and History of French Chocolate, considers the reinvention of French chocolate as a good with esoteric cachet and cultural authenticity.
