How, through the broad sweep of history, have humans discovered and invented things that have led to the point at which they converge into one artifact: the iPhone (well, really the smart phone, but Apple got to it first)? The story starts more than a thousand years ago when humans began to form communities. It then accelerates into recent times to today’s advanced state of communications. The narrative stays at a high level of historical cause and effect rather than the minutiae of technology.
Rob Collins had a career of more than 40 years in the high-tech industry, ending in executive roles in the private and public sector. Upon retirement, he returned to his true calling—history—and earned a degree from the University of Ottawa. He is a historical interpreter
