5:30 – 6:30 pm | Monday, January 19 | Reception at 5:00 pm
With slavery entrenched in British North America, people of African descent—their own freedom in question—left Lowcountry plantations in large numbers to fight on both sides of the Revolutionary War. Meldon Hollis embarks on a topic he has engaged as professor of African American history at the University of South Carolina and as associate director of the White House Initiative on HBCUs.
