Overshadowed by his wife and the guillotine, Louis XVI is a well-known and yet little-known king of France. In the complex events before and during the French Revolution, his particular role easily disappears in the rush toward the grim conclusion everyone knows is coming. With the help of recent scholarship, this course pulls Louis XVI from the shadows and examines his place in this critical moment of French history.
Janet Stone retired from 32 years as a professor of history at Armstrong State University. Her PhD from Emory University is in modern European history, and her special areas of research include the French Revolution. She is a frequent instructor at The Learning Center.
