This sweeping survey course covers the Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire (which Voltaire said was “neither holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire”), spans Islam and Stoicism (from Boethius to the first universities), and lands in the great poetic visions of the Medieval world, which ushered in the Renaissance.
Richard Braithwaite is a novelist, lecturer, and teacher. His undergraduate degree from Dartmouth and his master’s degree from the University of Florida are in literature and fiction writing. He has led more than a dozen courses at The Learning Center.
