Does art mirror life or does life mirror art? This course with a conscience highlights four areas of social concern: the campaign trail, political prisoners, activists and allies, and the power of community. Each theme comes to life through two films: a feature film one week and a documentary the next. These fictional films and
their documentary counterparts provoke thought and conversation, not just about the topics they illuminate, but also about the art they exemplify.

Karen Bluestone comes from a background in clinical social work where she specialized in working with adolescents. In her retirement, she enjoys her experiences at TLC, including sharing insights into current issues and the cinematic iterations of those issues.
