LIVING FELLOWSHIP WITH THE ANCIENTS RAPHAEL’S STANZA DELLA SEGNATURA

Nicole Blackwood | 2:00-3:00 pm | Friday, May 1

Location: Ralston College | 26 East Gaston Street

This engaging lecture by Ralston’s Nicole Blackwood explores Raphael’s
Stanza della Segnatura as a vision of living fellowship with the ancients: Plato and Aristotle stand in vivid exchange while Michelangelo appears as the solitary, brooding Heraclitus. This year’s Metropolitan Museum’s major Raphael exhibition makes this a timely consideration of how the room stages Renaissance artists in active dialogue with antiquity and with one another.

Nicole Blackwood serves as senior director of strategic initiatives and professor of art history at Savannah’s Ralston College. She received her honors BA in art history from the University of Toronto and her MA and PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art.
