Georgia’s founding father enjoyed a long and storied life, a mere ten years of which can be called the “Georgia decade.” This cradle-to-grave telling of Oglethorpe’s story includes his successes in Georgia, bookended by a promising life of adventure and privilege before Georgia, and a comfortably active retirement afterward among London’s literati.

Roger Smith is the founding director of The Learning Center at Senior Citizens, Inc. A Savannah native who enjoys researching local history, he served as director of education at the Georgia Historical Society prior to joining the staff of SCI.
