The Jazz Age of the 1920s gave way to the Swing Era of the 1930s and 1940s, transforming American popular music. This  course examines how that musical revolution produced three iconic band leaders—Benny Goodman,

Tommy Dorsey, and Glenn Miller—each with a distinctive sound and style. These Hollywood films offer the opportunity for close listening to the music these bands performed and for exploring what made each band

leader’s approach unique and enduring. Classics such as “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Song of India,” and “Moonlight Serenade” are in the songbook of this course!
