This course traces the history of the second German Reich, from its origins in the wars of unification in the 1860s to its demise at the end of World War One. In addition to sixty years of political and military affairs, the course gives attention to important and evolving social and cultural developments and casts light on the era’s two most important individuals: Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and Emperor Wilhelm II.
