A spectacular array of lecture, vocal performance, and salon-style conversation converge in an evening to remember as opera veteran F. Paul Driscoll explores and explicates the nuances of American opera as a unique genre. Together with mezzo soprano Beth Splaine, who adds sublime performances from the American opera songbook, Driscoll delights opera aficionados and newcomers alike.
F. Paul Driscoll began his association with Opera News in 1990 and served as editor-in-chief through 2003. An expert on the American opera scene, he has spoken extensively, most frequently for the Metropolitan Opera Club.
Mezzo soprano Elizabeth Splaine sang regionally in the U.S. for fifteen years with opera companies in Boston, Philadelphia, Annapolis, Harrisburg, and Grand Rapids. She has twenty years of teaching experience at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School and the Savannah Philharmonic.
