Rethinking Color

This painting course focuses on color and its ability to communicate meaning. We will review color theory, color mixing and paint application through quick exercises. With the goal of enhancing your meaning and visual communication ability through color, we will then apply this information to your paintings. At the end of this course, you will have a concise review of color, as well as several methods for exploring color in your paintings.

  • All students will be required to show proof of vaccination and booster if/when eligible. Students are expected to adhere to the Art Center's health and safety guidelines, including wearing a mask at all times when in the building. Review the most up-to-date in-building protocol here.

     We require a minimum number of five students enrolled in a class in order for it to run. If the class is at risk of cancellation, students will be notified on September 16.   • Bring to the first class: Old magazines, scissors, pencils, and your painting supplies.

    Painting supplies (watercolor, acrylic, or oil) of their choice in these colors:
    • Titanium white
    • Naples Yellow
    • Cadmium Yellow
    • Cadmium red
    • Ultramarine blue
    • Cerulean blue or Cerulean blue hue
    • Sap Green
    • Yellow Ochre
    • Burnt Sienna
    • Raw umber
    • Ivory black or lamp black

    A variety of paint brush sizes. Palette knife for oils and acrylics. Jars to contain a medium. Rags. Oil paint paper for oils. Student quality watercolor and acrylic paper.
