Learning Hub - Middle School (Fall1-2020)

Middle School Grades 6-8 | This program is completed

In response to a community need for safe spaces for virtual student learning, the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will provide learning hub space for a small group of middle school students. The Cultural Arts Center is not a licensed child care facility and is offering the “Learning Hubs in Creative Spaces” opportunity to parents as a safe learning space alternative for a small number of middle school students. Adult proctors will be on-site at all times to monitor student learning and activities.

Virtual learning will begin at the time designated by the student’s home school. Students will connect with their home school using the Center's WiFi for their virtual learning; the on-site proctor will make sure the students are paying attention, working on schoolwork, taking breaks as needed, etc.

Following the safety guidelines as set forth by the Virginia State Health Commissioner, the CAC will be requiring physical distancing, hand washing, daily screening for symptoms, and face coverings over the nose and mouth for all students and adult participants throughout the day. Groups of a maximum of 10 students will stay together with the same adult monitor throughout the day and not mix with other student groups. Students will remain 6 feet apart, and will not share materials or supplies. Students will be screened for symptoms upon arrival. If any students show symptoms at any time during the day, they will be isolated in a separate room and a parent or guardian will be contacted for pick-up.

The benefit of using the Cultural Arts Center: At the end of the virtual school day, students will have the opportunity to participate in visual arts, performing arts, and outdoor activities. Activities may include drawing, painting, animation, theater, yoga, gardening, and others. Supplies for these activities will be provided by the Cultural Arts Center.
