Observational Drawing: Tools for Seeing (Fall 2-2024)
Adult | Registration closed 10/31/2024
This course is designed to fundamentally enhance how students observe and interpret the visual world through drawing. By studying key components such as line, light, space, and perspective, students will learn to observe and render the world around them in a new way. This course emphasizes the importance of seeing differently, relearning how to look, and translating that onto the 2D plane. By approaching drawing as a critical artistic practice, students will open up new possibilities for interacting with the world around them.
The class will meet for three hours weekly over 6 weeks, having two sessions in the Fall season at the Cultural Arts Center. This class consists of a studio and a survey class. The session will be split during class between demonstrations, studio work, and informal conversations.
In addition to in-class work, students are encouraged to spend around 2 hours drawing outside of class per week.
