Join us for this introductory workshop for Contact Improvisation, a new class in the Winter/Spring 2025 Season!
Contact Improv is an uncodified partnered dance form with a primary focus on bodily physics and bodily listening. In this small class we will do a lot of self-reflecting. We will investigate our movement patterns and impulses and consider how they can be in socially just relation with our peers in autonomous, creative, and insightful ways.
This course aims to equip you with strategies for –creativity, spontaneity, listening, collaboration, trust – for use both inside and outside the artist creation processes. We will develop these skills through games, improvisation and collective creation exercises. Specific emphasis will be placed on imagination, playfulness, first thoughts, and freeing up the mental and psychological blocks that keep us from reacting spontaneously. Participating in this class will be fun, challenging, and encourage personal growth, interpersonal skills, and creative abilities across disciplines and in everyday life.
