In this class, students will step into the painter's studio, exploring it as a site of historical significance and a workshop for contemporary creation. Students will specifically explore how Giorgio Morandi and Paul Cézanne created their paintings and how the places and ideas around them influenced their work. Together, students will look at Morandi’s "Untitled" (1955) and Cézanne’s "Still Life with Water Jug" (c. 1892-3) to understand how they approached still life painting. Students will explore what made these artists’ works stand out by studying their techniques and processes.

In the studio, you’ll have a chance to respond to these pieces by experimenting with your own creative methods. You will connect your art with historical works and develop your personal painterly processes. No prior experience with art history is needed—just bring your creativity and curiosity!
