Introduction to Drawing (A) - Lottery

Lifelong Learning | Registration opens 5/5/2026 9:00 AM EDT

Discover the joy of drawing! Intro to Drawing is the perfect class to build a strong artistic foundation while exploring your imagination. You’ll learn core drawing techniques, including the elements of art and principles of design while you develop your power of observation. We will use the world around us to inspire our pencil exercises and drawings to bring animals, nature and creative ideas to life. Come ready to explore, experiment, relax and most of all, have fun! Supply list will be provided.

We will use a lottery to select the participants for this class. We will notify selected participants either way by May 19. Members can take one section of Introduction to Drawing, not both.

Maria Farina

As a youth, Maria was selected to take part in the Tam O’Shanters Art Program at the Carnegie Art Museum. This began her foray into a creative life, filled with art, music and writing. A native of Pittsburgh, Maria attended the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. Upon graduation, she worked at several radio stations / TV stations in Cleveland, Ohio as a on-air personality. In 2006, Maria returned to her beloved Pittsburgh and worked as a national / local voice actress at studios around the city and from her home studio. Maria has self-published two books and has given numerous talks about writing to students and adults alike. Maria is also a musician, playing the piano and clarinet. She performs with the Pine Creek Community Band and has recently begun studying the cello. Maria is very excited to share her love of watercolor with her students.
