“I stumbled when I saw”: Learning from Tragedy in Shakespeare’s King Lear

Lifelong Learning | Registration opens 8/20/2026 9:00 AM EDT

How do we care for aging family members?
What do we owe our children? What do they owe us?

Shakespeare’s King Lear explores these questions and many more. In this class, we will dive each week into one of the play’s five acts. Students will have a chance to read and discuss passages, to watch clips of the play to see how it has been interpreted for different times and cultures, and to find the beauty in Shakespeare’s challenging and deeply moving masterpiece.

Participants are asked to purchase (or borrow) a Folger edition of the play (readily available new or used) so that we can all be on the same page as we read and discuss the play.
