The Feminine Hand of God: Deliverance in the Book of Judith

Lifelong Learning | Available (Membership Required)

This seminar offers learners a thorough yet accessible biblical study of the Book of Judith.  Sessions will include textual analysis, close reading, guided discussion, and theological reflection.  We will explore how God works through the unexpected to bring deliverance, examine the dynamics of gender and power, and wrestle with ethical questions such as Judith's use of deception. Throughout, we will reflect on how this ancient story speaks to Christian discipleship, perseverance, and hope in impossible circumstances. This study invites deeper engagement with an often-overlooked biblical novella of a simple widow who, as the instrument of God’s deliverance, saves Israel from foreign conquest.
