Burnbabyburn!

Special Event | Registration closed 9/3/2026

Join us as we go to see Burnbabyburn! the American Dream at the August Wilson House, put on by Pittsburgh Playwrights. This will be the first show discussed at the Theater in the City class in the first session, but anyone can attend.

A note from Sr. Rita about the play “The title is misleading. This is not a violent play. Pittsburgh playwright, A.K. Payne, wrote a memory play. I went to the June 14 reading of the play and was touched by the poetic dialogue of this recent NAACP Theater Award winner. The play uses photographs as an important element; thus, the omission of afternoon performances. It is the story of girl who grew up in Pittsburgh. As Monteze Freeland writes:

“It is a play about parenthood, identity, chosen family, and hope, written with a poetry that is both timeless and immediate, highlighting the people of this once smoky city between three rivers.”

Transportation will be provided from and back to La Roche. The show will be held outside.
